While some consider the Apostle and
Evangelist two separate people, the Catholic Church celebrates
Dec 27 as the "Feast of St. John, Apostle and Evangelist."
Considered to be "the disciple that Jesus Loved" in the Gospel
of John.
One of the two sons of Zebedee. Brother
to St. James the Greater, who were together fishing partners
with Peter and Andrew. These were the first four called to
be apostles.
Along with Peter and James, the only three
apostles to witness the Transfiguration and the healing of
Jairus' daughter, the only three to accompany Jesus while he
prayed in Gethsemane before his arrest.
With his brother, asked to be at Jesus' side
in the kingdom, causing an argument among the apostles.
The only apostle who stayed with Jesus
through his cross and death. Given by Jesus from the cross
to Mary. First apostle to reach the tomb after the women
reported it empty.
The only Apostle who was not martyred.
Died at a very old age.
Credited as the author of the Gospel
according to John and three letters in the Bible, and most
likely the Book of Revelation.
